Coach speeches end of season

In: Kids. But you guys! This speech. Try not to tear up with this one. The guys fought hard this year but lost last night in the semi-final rounds at the state high school basketball tournament. The lessons these guys will learn from this loss will stay with them for the rest of their lives. And I thank God every day that he gives me guys like you to be able to talk to… and you guys listen to me.

It is such a blessing. When you get smacked in the mouth are you going to sit there and sulk? Or are you going to be solution based. Are you going to find a way?

Are you going to never stop trying to be the best you can be? What you guys did was out-fricking standing. Do not hang your heads.

You guys have got way better things to come. It stinks now — but it will get better. Apply these things to your life… and I have no doubt in my mind that you guys are going to be great people.

I have been able to use the sample here to write a good speech. You spend months working with a group of players to mold and shape a season. Countless hours go into designing plays and drills to help the team succeed.

The time spent always has ups and downs, but through it all the team becomes a family. A special group that, in its current form, ultimately has an expiration date.

Now, the final buzzer has sounded, and that date has arrived. Some arrive more dramatically than others, but with the exception of one team in any postseason tournament, its arrival is inevitable.

The words hit you like a cold bucket of water, and as you walk to the locker room, you search for words to console your team with. Depending on how closely your exit from the tournament matches your expectations for the postseason, you may or may not be prepared.

Usually coaches have a feel for when the time may come, but no one wants to prepare a speech for this situation. For your seniors, this moment will likely be one of the most painful memories they have from their time in your program. The harsh reality for most is that their career is over, the teammates they have spent years playing with will be going their separate ways, and they will all be moving on to a new chapter of their lives.

Things will never be the same. The words and actions you use can have incredible power to both console and teach, and will be indelibly seared into the memories of each player as they look back on the time they spent in your program. This may be the most powerful speech a coach can give, and has to be delivered while you are likely hurting as much as they are.

Every situation is unique. There is no instruction manual for how to approach this situation, but having some guidelines in the back of your mind can help you through it. Here are some of the guidelines we have used in our program to deal with this difficult time:.

The Last Postgame Speech. The inspirational locker room speech delivered pre- post- or even mid-game is a sports tradition. It's commonplace in locker rooms in most sports at any level and absolutely mandatory in the closing minutes of any great sports film.

Maybe the best athletes don't need any motivation outside of that they have in themselves. But it certainly can't hurt to have another motivational force in the locker room, particularly at the college level where athletes don't have a gigantic game check to inspire them. Personally, I love this kind of stuff. All the yelling and jumping and high-fiving makes me wish I had given the whole college athletics thing a shot. Here are 20 locker room speeches that will fire up anyone not lacking a soul.

Countering the stroke-inducing rage of Bobby Knight, we have the aw-shucks likability of Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. There's no reason that Carroll's man-child antics should fly in the NFL, except that they do. The players in Seattle really respond to the dedicated prankster in charge.

And when Carroll flips the switch from hokey with heart to locker room loudmouth, his guys always eat it up with a spoon.

It's too bad you can't can the Mighty Ducks' Gordon Bombay and deploy his brand of team-first, win-without-losing-yourself locker room schtick any time a group of preteens need to get fired up and take down those soul-sucking jerks from Team Iceland.

In fact, I bet Emilio Estevez wishes he was that marketable. I'm guessing the Flyers aren't fans of his approach. There are few people who could keep up the same level of intensity that 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh managed during his first season in San Francisco. It may be a chore for lesser men, but the elder Harbaugh just couldn't do it any other way. Most of his postgame speeches from have made their way to YouTube and, no matter the consequences of the game, Harbaugh's message and enthusiasm were consistent.

Head coach Gene Chizik's post-BCS speech to his players is a great reminder of how special Auburn's season was and how strong the team's chemistry was by the end of the season.

Basketball Coaching – Struggling Through a Losing Season

We're all motivated by different things, but I know that for me, personally, nothing lights a fire under my ass than the very real threat of being faced with the business end of a flying chair.

Legendary rage-a-holic Bobby Knight only had two settings: angry and angrier. This audio peek into Knight's locker room is a glimpse into the motivational methods of NCAA basketball's second most winningest coach. The players may have come into the locker room anticipating a basketball game, but they walked out onto the court with strict instructions from Lewis to create their legacy today because tomorrow is never promised. So lay your foundation. After watching UL-Lafayette head coach Mark Hudspeth's speech before the New Orleans Bowl, it's not surprising to hear that his name is frequently on the short list of hot head coach candidates.

And it wasn't just a great locker room moment, it was effective. His team prevailed over San Diego State in a nail-biter.Their coach, Dave Belisle, refused to join the pity party, instead exhorting his charges to lift their heads and be proud of their entire run to Williamsport.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the epitome of great coaching. Belisle is inspiring, authentic and completely and totally genuine in every word. Heads up high. Look at the score —in hits. We came to the last out. You had the whole place jumping, right? You had the whole state jumping. You had New England jumping. You had ESPN jumping. They like fighters.

They like sportsmen. They like guys who play the game the right way. If everyone would play baseball like the Cumberland Americans, this would be the greatest game. We have two more days of fun.

Friends forever. Our Little League careers have ended on the most positive note that could ever be. Ever be. Only one. We got down to the nitty-gritty. Think about that for a second. In the world! One more thing. I want a big hug.Competition breeds a lot of things, but one of its most enduring products is inspiration.

This fact has given us some incredible motivational speeches from the wide world of sports, and in situations both expected and unexpected that live on Youtube. There are inspirational speeches for every situation: the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the importance of teamwork, the hard work and sacrifice required to reach great heights. With this in mind, we gathered some of the best inspirational speeches around, given by pro athletes, coaches, and even a little kid who dropped some knowledge after taking a tumble off his bike.

Ten years after leading NC State to an NCAA championship in the greatest upset ever, battling late-stage, terminal cancer, Jimmy V outlined his blueprint for a fulfilling life in three simple rules: Laugh, think, and cry. Every day. We should do this every day of our lives.

Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy.

But think about it. And, well, that might be the case. And no one will tell me who and what I am and can be. Belief will change my world. So many people doubted me and motivated me every single day to be who I am. I failed so many times and got back up. Physically speaking. Your kid will long-divide circles around that goon! Sidebar — when did high school football coaches all become motivational as hell? They got athletes, they got guys going to Division 1 schools.

All right? We can see that and so can everybody else. But nobody can see the intangible in us … be the intangible tonight! This speech marked the first time in history a teenager thought they knew more than every adult in the world and was actually correct.

Hell, you take it from one of their own.

InDrew Brees set the record for most passing yards in a season, and gave this speech to his coaches and teammates after the game. Ever humble, Brees exhaustively lists every person who helped him along the way, from his teammates to the equipment managers.

He also finds time to get in a ball joke. What a professional. Encourage your son.

Congratulations to the student-athletes who made the fall an outstanding soccer season. The standard of excellence for Boulder High Soccer is at a new height. I am especially proud of the academic achievements of the student-athletes this fall. In addition to our many fine students and Academic All-State honorees, we must recognize all the student-athletes that put in the extra effort to academically better themselves. First and foremost, each Boulder High student-athlete is a student. There is no soccer at Boulder High without academic commitment.

While the teams in the program had great win-loss records and they enjoyed their share of big victories and emotional defeats, the games of this past fall will eventually fade into fragmented memories. In the end, the measures of success are not the statistics or wins, rather, they are the friendships, lessons and maturing that are the result of effort, selfless commitment to the team and dedication to personal betterment.

As coaches, we are fortunate to have been a part of it. I am excited to see how the student-athletes of embrace the legacy of the season. Your email address will not be published.
